“What are you afraid of?”
Face your fears. Run toward them, not away.
Simple enough, right? This challenge was put out to the young leaders on the Cooperative Trust website and there seemed to be a common thread running through our answers.
We shared goals to face our fears, like: sit back more often, letting go of my ‘baby’, being ok with saying ‘no’, voicing my opinion, or breaking off relationships that aren’t positively affecting my life.
But why is it so hard for us to do these things? As leaders, we constantly think about the team, the project, the organization. We don’t want to let anyone down; we want to do it all and we want to do it the best.
In the long run, though, it takes many parts to make up the whole. If each of the parts isn’t running smoothly and functioning properly, the whole is going to suffer.
That means it IS ok sit back on occasion, say no more often, speak up for yourself. Take care of yourself, make you happy.
By coming to work at your best, you can put in your best, your best comes out and the team becomes the best.
